Orange Regional Medical Center Hosts Caregiver Conference

August 22, 2013

Middletown, NY- The Orange Regional Medical Center Foundation, in partnership with the Orange County Office for the Aging, will host a free caregiver conference on Monday, September 30, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Orange Regional Medical Center, Conference Center, 707 East Main Street, Middletown. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Registration is required and must be made by September 1. For more information or to register, call 1-888-321-ORMC (6762). 

This conference, led by Gary Barg, Editor-in-Chief of Today’s Caregiver, will provide practical information, advice and support for challenges associated with caring for loved ones. A panel of experts will provide information on how to balance family, work and caregiving, as well as ways to overcome stress and depression. Information from various financial and community resources will also be available. 

According to the National Family Caregivers Association, 29% of the U.S. population provides care for a chronically ill, disabled or aged family member or friend during a given year. Most caregivers spend an average of 20 hours per week providing care for their loved one.

Orange Regional Medical Center and Boys & Girls Clubs Partner in School Supply Drive

August 20, 2013

Middletown, NY- Orange Regional Medical Center and Town of Wallkill Boys & Girls Clubs, Inc. teamed up again to support ‘Backpacks for Hope’, a school supply drive whose goal is to provide new supplies and backpacks for low-income or needy children. On Monday, August 19, 2013 the Boys and Girls Clubs picked up hundreds of folders, binders and other supplies generously donated by Orange Regional employees. 

“It is a pleasure to work with the Town of Wallkill Boys & Girls Clubs in the Backpacks for Hope program,” says Orange Regional’s Executive Director of PR & Marketing, Rob Lee. “It provides Orange Regional with the opportunity to make a real difference this upcoming school year.”

Orange Regional Medical Center Offers Free Mammograms

August 15, 2013

Middletown, NY- Orange Regional Medical Center will offer free mammograms on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Ray W. Moody, M.D. Breast Center located at the Orange Regional Medical Pavilion, 75 Crystal Run Road in Middletown. Appointments are limited and must be made by Wednesday, September 4. Pre-registration is required. 

The event is open to women without insurance who are currently not experiencing breast problems, while still meeting the following criteria. Participants must be over 40 years of age and have not had a mammogram within a year’s time. Women who have had a mammogram within a year’s time and are currently experiencing breast problems may still meet the requirements for participation. They are encouraged to call. 

During the hour-long appointment, patients will receive a clinical breast exam and mammography, breast health education and self-breast exam training. The screenings will be led by Howard M. Karpoff, M.D., FACS and Ashmitha Srinivasan, M.D. 

According to the American Cancer Society, about one in eight women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime and about 232,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in 2013.

Orange Regional Medical Center Opens New Wound Healing Center

Middletown, NY- Orange Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce the opening of its new outpatient Wound Healing Center located at the Orange Regional Medical Pavilion at 75 Crystal Run Road, Suite 240 in Middletown. The Wound Healing Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Led by Medical Director Cleveland Lewis, MD, the Wound Healing Center offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy and a team of specialized clinicians as well as the most advanced treatments and therapies for chronic and non-healing wounds. 

“Orange Regional continuously strives to provide the best individualized care to those in our community,” says Vice President of Oncology Services and Outpatient Operations, Sandra Iberger. “Our new Wound Healing Center supports our mission to improve the health of our community by meeting a growing unmet need. Orange Regional Medical Center To Host Free Seminar on Common Hand Problems

August 12, 2013

Middletown, NY- Orange Regional Medical Center will host a free seminar titled “Common Hand Problems: Diagnosis, Treatment and Prevention and Thursday, August 29 at 6:00 p.m. at Orange Regional Medical Center Conference Center’s Multipurpose Conference Room, 707 East Main Street in Middletown. Light refreshments will be served. 

Dr. Dimitrios Christoforou, Dr. Vipul Patel and Dr. Samir Sodha will lead the discussion on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of hand problems as well as complex traumatic and arthritic conditions. 

The U.S. Department of Labor and Statistics has concluded that carpal tunnel syndrome is the “chief occupational hazard of the 90’s” – disabling workers in epidemic proportions. Currently, carpal tunnel syndrome affects over 8 million Americans, is the number one reported medical problem and accounts for about 50% of all work-related injuries.

Learn About the Prevention of Stress-Related Eating

Middletown, NY- Orange Regional Medical Center will host a free educational seminar “Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery” on Tuesday, August 20 at 6:00 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott, Stewart Airport, 4 Governor Drive in Newburgh. Join Janet Kovler, M.S., R.D., C.D.N., C.D.E., Orange Regional’s Bariatric Program Director, for this information-filled seminar where obesity treatment options including non-surgical approaches and gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and gastric banding surgery will be discussed by one of Orange Regional Medical Center’s Board-certified, Fellowship-trained bariatric surgeons. 

Orange Regional’s Bariatric Support Group will meet immediately following the seminar. This support group is for both pre- and post-op weight loss surgical patients and is open to the general public. The topic that will be discussed at the support group will be: Nutrition – dealing with cravings/preventing stress eating.
