Middletown, NY- Orange Regional Medical Center is pleased to offer yoga to their cancer patients and their caregivers to assist in improving overall quality of life through their cancer journey. Yoga is an ancient tradition that incorporates meditation, deep breathing and movement through physical postures. Yoga may offer numerous physical beneficial effects such as increases in resistance to illness and disease, alleviates side effects, induces the “relaxation response”, supports a healthy immune system plus increases strength and flexibility and eases chronic pain. Practicing yoga may also promote stress reduction, improved body image and reduction in depression and anxiety. Additionally, this five week course will allow participants to interact with others who are facing cancer.

“I’m very excited to launch this program,” says Regina Toomey Bueno, Orange Regional’s Administrator of Oncology Services. “It’s another service Orange Regional provides to help our cancer patients through their diagnosis and treatment that offers many positive benefits and no harmful side effects.”

Orange Regional Medical Center Hosts A Free "Look Good...Feel Better" Program

January 8, 2013

Middletown, NY- In conjunction with the American Cancer Society, Orange Regional Medical Center will host a free program called “Look Good… Feel Better” on Monday, January 21, 2013 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Orange Regional Medical Center, 707 East Main Street, Middletown in the Outpatient Conference Room (located just inside the Outpatient Entrance).

Women who have begun or are about to begin a course of radiation or chemotherapy treatment have been advised that they may experience some temporary changes in appearance. The “Look Good…Feel Better” beauty sessions help patients transition through an upsetting, although temporary, period by learning skin-care tips, make-up application techniques and wig and turban styling and more. By the end of the session, patients should have an improved self-image, tips on how to manage their appearance and a sense of support, confidence, courage and community.

“The American Cancer Society’s Look Good…Feel Better program is wonderful,” says Orange Regional’s Administrator of Oncology Services, Regina Toomey-Bueno. “When women feel more confident about their appearance, they often feel more positive and empowered throughout treatment.”

Space is limited; pre-registration is advised. For more information, or to register, please call 1-800-227-2345.
