Orange Regional Medical Center's William Fitzhenry Awarded Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor of the Year

Middletown, NY- William Fitzhenry, a Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) with the Orange Regional Family Program for Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency, was granted the Richard C. Ward Memorial CASAC of the Year Award. He was recognized during the 20th Annual Orange County Counselor Recognition Day.

Mr. Fitzhenry has worked for the hospital for over 30 years and began his internship at the Family Program for Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency more than ten years ago. He was hired after completion of his internship and is a valued member of the multi-disciplinary team.

The award recognizes local workers who dedicate their careers to providing alcoholism and substance abuse counseling to Orange County citizens. Nominations are carefully reviewed and a winner is selected by the Award Selection Committee comprised of Orange County Providers.

The Orange Regional Family Program for Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency offers day and evening comprehensive services and treatment programs designed to meet the special needs of patients and their families suffering with alcohol and substance abuse. Clinical staff is comprised of Psychiatrists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Credentialed Alcohol & Substance Abuse Counselors and Counselors. The office is located at 420 East Main Street, Middletown. Appointments are available Monday through Thursday from 9:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. and Friday from 8:00a.m. - 4:00p.m.

Orange Regional Medical Center's Bariatric Surgery Program Earns 'Center of Excellence'

Middletown, NY- Orange Regional Medical Center is proud to announce that its bariatric surgery program has been designated a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence® (BSCOE) by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).

This program is the preferred designation for the bariatric surgical specialty. The detailed review and designation process included site inspections to determine and verify compliance of the various program requirements. This designation recognizes Orange Regional as demonstrating an unparalleled commitment and ability to consistently deliver the highest level of bariatric surgical care possible. Earning the BSCOE designation also distinguishes Orange Regional from other providers in both professional and patient situations.

"Being recognized as a Center of Excellence further validates the high level of work done within the program," stated Dr. Firas Hamdi, Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery program. "Patients can take comfort in knowing that they are receiving excellent care."

Orange Regional Medical Center offers three minimally invasive weight-loss procedures called Gastric Bypass, Gastric Banding and Sleeve Gastrectomy. Orange Regional Medical Center Launches Special Web Site About New Hospital

Middletown, NY- Recently, Orange Regional Medical Center launched a special Web site dedicated to showcasing the new hospital and providing information about its features and construction progress. The site, www.ormcnewhospital.org, offers new hospital news and answers to commonly asked questions about the first new hospital to be constructed in New York State in over 20 years. Visitors to the Web site will find helpful information about the new hospital and key information about the move into the new facility on Friday, August 5.

Orange Regional Medical Center will close its two existing campuses, Arden Hill and Horton, and open the new 600,000 + square foot facility on August 5. Orange Regional Medical Center Nurses Honored at Annual Awards Ceremony

Middletown, NY- Orange Regional Medical Center's nurses, Christopher Costello and Linda Prioleau, were honored at the 2011 1199SEIU League Nurse of Distinction Awards ceremony. Almost 800 guests gathered in New York City for an exciting evening that paid tribute to nurses who have served as pioneers in our community.

Often referred to as the "Academy Awards for Nurses", nominees and winners were chosen in each of the following five categories: Nurse of Distinction in a Hospital Setting; Nurse of Distinction in a Nursing Home Setting; Nurse Leader; Novice Nurse and Nurse Preceptor. Semi-finalist nominations for Orange Regional Medical Center were selected by the hospital's Nurse of Distinction Committee in acknowledgment of their skills and dedication to their profession, patients, co-workers and to the medical center.

Linda Prioleau, a Registered Nurse in Medical/Surgical Department on Tower 5 of Orange Regional's Horton Campus, was the recipient of the 'Nurse of Distinction in a Hospital Setting' award. Christopher Costello, a Nurse Director at Orange Regional's Arden Hill Campus, was honored with the 'Nurse Leader' award.

Orange Regional Medical Center Hosts Free Educational Seminar

Middletown, NY- Orange Regional Medical Center will host a free educational seminar "Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery" on Tuesday, July 19 at 6:00 p.m. at the Lodge at Rock Hill, 283 Rock Hill Drive, Rock Hill. Orange Regional's Bariatric Support Group will meet immediately following the seminar. This support group is for both pre- and post-op weight loss surgical patients and is open to the general public. The topic that will be discussed at the support group will be exercise - enjoying exercise and keeping it safe.

Join Janet Kovler, M.S., R.D., C.D.N., C.D.E., Orange Regional's Bariatric Surgical Services Coordinator, for this information-filled seminar where obesity treatment options including non-surgical approaches and gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and gastric banding surgery will be discussed by one of Orange Regional Medical Center's Board-certified, Fellowship-trained bariatric surgeons.
