June 28, 2012

Middletown, NY- Orange Regional Medical Center has joined the New York State Partnership for Patients (NYSPFP), a statewide quality improvement initiative aimed at improving quality and patient safety by reducing complications and avoidable readmissions.

NYSPFP, a joint project of the Healthcare Association of New York State and Greater New York Hospital Association, is part of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Partnership for Patients, a national initiative that seeks to reduce hospital-acquired conditions and preventable readmissions by helping patients heal without complications after being discharged. NYSPFP has invited key New York State health care stakeholders including regulators, clinicians, health insurers, hospital trustees and others to contribute to the project’s statewide success.

“We are extremely pleased to be a part of this initiative. It coincides with our mission in delivering quality care in a safe, compassionate, respectful and responsive manner,” says Orange Regional’s Vice President for Quality, Rosemary Baczewski.

NYSPFP will build upon existing quality improvement programs at hospitals across the state, focusing on key clinical areas as well as hospital leadership and culture, to support New York State hospitals as they continually strive to provide safe, high-quality care and improve outcomes.

Young Philanthropists Emerge to Support Orange Regional Medical Center

June 5, 2012

Middletown, NY- Orange Regional Medical Center’s Pediatric Unit is the proud benefactor of more than $800 raised by the Orange Regional Medical Center Foundation’s Young Philanthropists Club, a group of local, young residents who have come together for the purpose of raising money for young patients. To date, the group has held two bake sales and a book sale. Their fundraising efforts have purchased an Otoscope, a device used to look into the ears.

The Young Philanthropists Club is an extension of the Orange Regional Foundation and was formed to support the Department of Pediatrics at Orange Regional. Club members are encouraged to make monetary donations or volunteer their time to help raise funds. Contributions, for example, range from donations made from their allowance to organizing and running bake sales to asking friends and family to make donations in lieu of birthday or holiday gifts. The Young Philanthropists Group also accepts new toys and books to stock the Pediatric Wing.

“Young people have so much enthusiasm. The Young Philanthropist Group is proving that the collective generosity of our community’s youth can make a difference in the lives of other children,” says Orange Regional Medical Center Foundation Director of Development, Kathleen Webber. “My idea for starting the group was inspired by a young girl who had organized fundraisers in her school. She wanted to provide the Hospital with money to benefit sick children.”
