Reiki Therapy Workshop Presented by Orange Regional Medical Center

June 25, 2013

Middletown, NY- Orange Regional Medical Center recently introduced Orange-Ulster BOCES staff to Reiki Therapy. The session provided and overview and educational information as to the benefits of Reiki Therapy and demonstrated Reiki techniques as performed by licensed Reiki Practitioners from Orange Regional. Reiki Therapy focuses on the health and wellness of the mind, body and spirit as a whole. Reiki sessions promote relaxation and reduce stress, anxiety, depression and fatigue to help patients recover more comfortably.

Reiki Therapy is a free service offered by Orange Regional during a patient’s hospital stay. Reiki, a complementary healing therapy, is conducted in a quiet environment where the patient falls into a relaxed and meditative state. The Reiki Practitioner places their hands in various positions lightly or slightly above the patient’s head, shoulder or chest, typically corresponding to the body’s energy centers. Positive energy is then transferred through these energy centers and helps restore healing and wellness. In 2012, 396 patients were treated with Reiki Therapy with an 89% of patients rating the service as excellent.

“The goal of our Reiki Therapy program is to further support the body’s own natural healing ability,” says Orange Regional’s Nursing Director of Oncology Services, Eva Edwards. “Also, a hospital stay can be emotional and stressful for patients. Reiki Therapy provides an opportunity to relax, and in the process, restore positive energy so the patient can rebalance mentally, physically and emotionally.”

To learn more about Reiki Therapy or to schedule a Reiki Therapy workshop community event, please contact Nursing Director of Oncology Services, Eva Edwards at eedwards@ormc.org.
