Orange Regional Medical Center's First Art Exhibition Now Accepting Submissions

October 21, 2011

Middletown, NY- Orange Regional Medical Center is now accepting submissions for its first Art Exhibit featuring local artists from Orange and Sullivan Counties. Exhibitions will rotate every six weeks. Submissions must be received by November 1, 2011. Orange Regional will display selected pieces in hallways and common areas of the new hospital, located at 707 East Main Street, Middletown, NY.

"Our area touts a large art community that has supported Orange Regional throughout its history. The hospital wants to return this support and show appreciation by showcasing local artists' works," states Sarah Thompson, Orange Regional Medical Center's Art Curator. "It has been proven that if patients have interesting, suitable and welcoming views of artwork to look at, they will make a more rapid recovery. The power of art has the ability to transport a person from the immediate circumstances to a more pleasant state of mind."

Orange Regional's new hospital opened on August 5, showcasing various pieces of art created by locally and internationally known artists. The artwork displayed minimizes the feel of a clinical setting enhancing and humanizing the hospital environment for patients, visitors and staff. By providing a nurturing setting, patients benefit from an environment softened by artwork which promotes healing and places them more at ease during their recovery.

Local artists from Orange and Sullivan Counties are welcomed to submit their work for consideration by November 1, 2011. Visit www.ormc.org and click on the Patients tab for more information regarding the criteria for artwork, submission and selection processes.
