Orange Regional Medical Center Aims to Build a Healthier Community

September 28, 2012

Middletown, NY- The Healthy Heart Program offered by Orange Regional Medical Center’s Peter Frommer, M.D. Heart Center has teamed up with Shoprite stores throughout Orange County to educate the community about heart disease and stroke as well as provide free cardiac screenings. The partnership endeavors to bring awareness to the community about heart healthy nutrition and exercise as well as assess an individual’s risk factors. Services and information provided are free to the community.

Registered nurses with the Healthy Heart Program will ask participant’s questions about their medical history, test their cholesterol and glucose levels and take blood pressure, height, weight and waist measurements. The results will determine their risk for heart disease. Results will be reviewed in detail with each participant and appropriate educational material as well as recommendations will be provided to achieve better heart health. Follow-up with each patient is done on a quarterly basis to track progress and offer continuing support.

“Our program is a key component to bring awareness of heart-related diseases to those in our community,” says Deb Brock, Healthy Heart clinician. “We strive to provide as much information we can about the different aspects of heart disease and stroke, as well as preventive actions, to as many people in our community as possible.”

At select locations, ShopRite dietitians will be on hand to provide participants with a healthy cooking demonstration.

Shoprite Corporate Dietician, Sarada Bernstein, MPH, RD, says, “ShopRite’s mission is to enrich the community in which we serve. Our retail dietitian program is at the heart of this mission. Our partnership with Orange Regional Medical Center’s Healthy Heart Program is an example of how we meet this goal.”
