ORMC's Lab Again Awarded Accreditation
February 24, 2010
(Middletown, NY) - By demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission's national standards for healthcare quality and safety, the Orange Regional Medical Center Laboratory has once again earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval™.
"We continually strive to improve the quality of our services, and meeting The Joint Commission's rigorous national standards is an important recognition of our efforts," said Laboratory Director Sharon Perna. The Joint Commission evaluated the laboratory's performance in complying with nearly 300 standards related to quality control, safety, infection control, leadership, management of human resources, management of information, ongoing performance improvement activities and various other categories.
"The accreditation process helps promote continuous, systematic and organization-wide improvement in healthcare organizations," says Gina Zimmermann, M.S., senior executive director, The Joint Commission. "Achieving accreditation demonstrates Orange Regional Medical Center's commitment to providing high quality and safe services." Founded in 1951, The Joint Commission is dedicated to continuously improving the safety and quality of the nation's healthcare through voluntary accreditation.
Sharon Perna says efforts to improve continue beyond The Joint Commission survey. "Meeting the standards and achieving excellence is a continuous process," she said. "No matter how well we did today, we continue to strive to do better tomorrow. I am tremendously proud of our Orange Regional staff and their achievement in this survey."

ORMC Offers Latest Radiation Therapy Treatment
February 22, 2010
Middletown, NY - Orange Regional's Eleanor T. Snow Radiation Oncology Center, located at the Orange Regional Medical Pavilion, 75 Crystal Run Road, Middletown, now offers the new RapidArc Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) technology from Varian Medical Systems. This latest technology helps our on-site radiation oncologists clearly see, precisely target, effectively and safely treat and carefully track tumors, while limiting radiation exposure to surrounding tissue and vital organs. This means patients experience shorter treatment sessions and fewer side effects.
"Radiation therapy is one of the safest, most effective ways to treat cancer. This state-of-the-art technology will enable us to treat patients with the most advanced radiation therapy techniques, using the most clinically efficient processes in the world," said Orange Regional's Chairman of Radiation Oncology, Dr. Thomas Eanelli. "It provides us with tremendous versatility and precision for customizing treatments according to the specific needs of each patient."
This new IGRT system is capable of real-time tumor tracking and automated patient positioning which enables clinicians to deliver concentrated radiation doses directly to the tumor while protecting surrounding healthy tissue. Radiation can be delivered quickly and with great precision which translates into faster treatments, greater patient comfort and the potential for better outcomes.

New Hospital Construction
Orange Regional Medical Center is constructing the first new hospital in New York State in over 20 years. The new hospital will consolidate our two existing campuses (Arden Hill and Horton) on a single site. Occupancy of the new hospital is expected to occur in 2011. Orange Regional is taking the best practices of both existing campuses in Middletown and Goshen and creating the most patient-friendly, efficient and technologically advanced hospital. The new hospital, located at 707 East Main Street in the Town of Wallkill, will have 353 private rooms and seven floors totaling over 600,000 square feet, making it one of the largest hospitals between the Tappan Zee Bridge and Albany. The new hospital will provide families with healthcare services that are currently not available in our area.
