Orange Cardiology Raises Money and Awareness for Orange Regional's Capital CampaignSeptember 21, 2009
Middletown, New York - In August, Orange Cardiology held its second annual Softball Fundraiser. The event, held at Craigville Park in Goshen, helped to raise funds for Orange Regional's Capital Campaign, Building for Excellence. The event raised more than $2,725.
Twenty-five players went to bat, with teams comprised of Orange Cardiology's Dr. Viral Sheth, other physicians and friends versus Joe Rizzo and friends of Orange Regional and Orange Cardiology. Dr. Sheth said, "we support our new hospital because we want the best for our patients."

Free Hip and Knee Arthritis Education SeminarSeptember 28, 2009
Middletown, New York - Orange Regional Medical Center will host a free arthritis seminar on Thursday, October 15 at 6:00 p.m. at the Community Health Education Center, 110 Crystal Run Road, Middletown. Orthopedic surgeon and joint replacement specialist Dr. Eric Martin will speak on hip and knee arthritis and treatment options including conservative, operative and emerging new treatments. Free Seminar on Weight Loss Surgery at Orange Regional Medical CenterSeptember 16, 2009
Middletown, New York - Orange Regional Medical Center will host a free seminar "Weight Loss Surgery" on Tuesday, October 6 at 6:00 p.m. at the Community Health Education Center, 110 Crystal Run Road in Middletown. Immediately following the seminar, Orange Regional will offer a Bariatric Support Group for both pre-op and post-op surgical weight loss patients open to the general public.
Dr. Wayne Weiss, medical director of Orange Regional's Bariatric (weight loss) Surgery Program, will discuss obesity treatment options including non-surgical approaches, gastric bypass and Lap-Band surgery. In addition, Orange Regional's Bariatric Surgical Services Coordinator, Janet Kovler, M.S., R.D., C.D.N., C.D.E. will be on hand to answer questions about weight loss surgery options.

Free Women with Type 1 Diabetes Support Group Offered at Orange Regional Medical CenterSeptember 14, 2009
Middletown, New York - Orange Regional Medical Center now hosts a new support group, Women with Type 1 Diabetes. This free support group is held to offer help, encouragement and information to meet the special needs of women with Type 1 Diabetes. Sessions will be held from 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Orange Regional Medical Center's Stanley S. Dunkelman Diabetes Treatment Center at 110 Crystal Run Road, Middletown.

Orange Regional Offers Free Prostate Cancer ScreeningsSeptember 4, 2009
Middletown, New York - Orange Regional Medical Center is offering free prostate cancer screenings from September 28th to October 1st at The Community Health Education Center, 110 Crystal Run Road, Middletown. To schedule an exam, please call The Orange Regional Health Connection at 1-888-321-ORMC (6762) by September 23, 2009. Appointments are limited and will be made on a first come, first serve basis.
The exam consists of a digital rectal exam (DRE) and a prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test, each of which takes about a minute to perform. The combination of these two methods is the most effective procedure for detecting prostate cancer at an early stage. The prostate screening program is for men who meet the following criteria:
- Have not been under the care of a urologist in the past 5 years
- Have no personal history of prostate cancer
- Are between the ages of 40 - 75
According to the Prostate Cancer Education Council, one out of every six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. Orange Regional Medical Center Foundation Awards New Nursing Scholarships September 1, 2009
Middletown, New York - The Orange Regional Medical Center Foundation presented two Orange-Ulster BOCES graduates with $500 scholarships to pursue undergraduate degrees in Nursing.
Gabrielle Kolb, of Port Jervis, will pursue a nursing degree at SUNY Delhi and Megan Mead, of New Hampton, will attend SUNY Orange as a nursing student this fall. Both students graduated from high school in 2009, completing the Principals of Healthcare program at Orange-Ulster BOCES and receiving Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
Orange-Ulster BOCES educational initiatives raise standards and develop rigorous programs which prepare their students for a future in healthcare. The goal of Orange Regional Foundation's Building for Excellence Scholarship is to encourage students to strive for excellence.
