Pediatric Emergency Unit

Orange Regional’s Emergency Department (ED) treats over 60,000 patients annually, 11,000 of which are children. Typically 95% of all pediatric ED patients are treated and released and do not require hospitalization – making this a child’s only hospital experience.

The Pediatric Emergency Department is separate to help alleviate fear and provide a more positive experience.  Approximately 3,000 sq. ft. has been transformed into six Pediatric treatment rooms, a triage area, a Nurses Station and four adjacent treatment rooms that will be utilized during high-volume periods. It will offer a safe, child-friendly environment and be decorated and equipped for the optimum care of children.

All of Orange Regional’s Emergency Department Physicians are Board-certified in Emergency Medicine. The ED Nurses will receive specialized training to work with children and the Child Life Specialist will be available, if needed. With this new space, children will receive exceptional care from highly-trained staff in a pleasant environment.
