American Cancer Society Patient Navigator

In addition to Orange Regional’s employed patient navigators, we partner with the American Cancer Society in offering a team of complementary patient navigators who will listen, list and address the patient's and/or caregiver's non-medical needs such as transportation, housing and financial assistance, among others. This group of trained volunteers works with cancer patients and their caregivers to identify needs and link them to available resources from the hospital, local community and the American Cancer Society. They maintain accurate, confidential records, as well as patient confidentiality, in accordance with HIPAA regulations. American Cancer Society Volunteer Patient Navigators are not clinicians and therefore refrain from assessing a patient’s medical condition and/or their family’s health needs. They work closely with Orange Regional’s Patient Navigators, who are clinicians, to address non-medical requirements and/or requests.

Patient Navigation Services connect people to appropriate community and/or healthcare resources such as:

  • Medical advice and/or referrals
  • Emotional, psychological and spiritual advice
  • Physical, emotional or clinical assessment and advice
  • Crisis counselingFundraising
  • End-of-life counseling
  • Grief counseling
  • Legal counseling
  • Financial counseling
  • Emotional counseling
  • Psychotherapy
  • Support groups
  • Advance directives
  • Abuse and neglect issues
  • Treatment options
  • Bereavement counseling

Patient navigators are relied upon for support, education and encouragement throughout a patient’s cancer care journey and into survivorship. With our navigation services, cancer patients benefit greatly by having quick and easy access to valuable information as well as a personal, dependable and knowledgeable supporter.

The American Cancer Society patient navigators regularyly visit our infusion treatment center.  The Orange Regional nursing staff will identify and introduce all new patients and patients with new needs to the navigators.  Patients can always ask the nursing staff for information on the American Cancer Society patient navigators or call the American Cancer Society directly at 800-227-2345.
