Prostate

da Vinci Prostatectomy is the #1 choice for treatment of localized prostate cancer in the United States

Thanks to a breakthrough in surgical robotic technology, surgeons now offer a minimally-invasive option for prostatectomy, or the removal of prostate cancer by surgically removing the prostate gland.

Facing any kind of urologic surgery creates a great deal of anxiety for most men. Among the concerns are: "Will my body function normally following surgery?" Traditional open urologic surgery - in which large incisions are made to access the pelvic organs - has been the standard approach when surgery is warranted. Yet common drawbacks of this procedure include significant post-surgical pain, a lengthy recovery and an unpredictable, potentially long-term impact on continence and sexual function.

da Vinci Surgery, a minimally-invasive approach that utilizes the latest in surgical and robotic technologies, is ideal for delicate urologic surgery. This includes prostatectomy, in which the target site is not only tightly confined but also surrounded by nerves affecting urinary control and sexual function.

Imagine major surgery performed through the smallest incisions. Imagine having the benefits of a definitive treatment but with the potential for significantly less pain, a shorter hospital stay, faster return to normal daily activities - as well as the potential for better clinical outcomes.

It is important to know that da Vinci Surgery does not place a robot at the controls; your surgeon is controlling every aspect of the surgery with the assistance of the da Vinci robotic platform.

da Vinci® Kidney Surgery

Robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery for diseases of the kidney is now available at Orange Regional Medical Center. The da Vinci surgical system allows our surgeons to perform complex surgery with greater precision and accuracy by a minimally invasive approach. The advantages over traditional open surgery include faster recovery times both in the hospital and at home, reduced scarring and less blood loss. Using the da Vinci Surgical System, our urologic surgeons perform:

  • Robotic Simple Nephrectomy: The total removal of a kidney when it becomes a chronic problem or loses its function.
  • Robotic Partial Nephrectomy: Robotic surgery to remove a kidney tumor while preserving the normal and unaffected portion of the kidney; thus preventing the loss of the entire kidney.
  • Robotic Radical Nephrectomy: The total removal of the kidney due to tumors.
  • Robotic Pyeloplasty: The precise removal of a blockage in the ureter leading from one of the kidneys to the bladder.

Performed through the smallest incisions, robotic surgery provides the benefits of a definitive treatment but with the potential for significantly less pain, a shorter hospital stay, faster return to normal daily activities - as well as the potential for better clinical outcomes.

It is important to know that da Vinci Surgery does not place a robot at the controls; your surgeon is controlling every aspect of the surgery with the assistance of the da Vinci robotic platform.

While clinical studies support the effectiveness of the da Vinci® System when used in minimally invasive surgery, individual results may vary. Surgery with the da Vinci Surgical System may not be appropriate for every individual. Always ask your doctor about all treatment options, as well as the risks and benefits.
