The delivery of state-of-the-art teleradiography begins with the ability to locate and visualize the affected site and develop an effective treatment plan. At the Eleanor T. Snow Radiation Oncology Center, physicians and technicians utilize the most sophisticated technology available to plan each patient's customized radiation therapy regimen. This technology includes a CT Simulator and an ADAC Three Dimensional Treatment Planning System.
The CT Simulator is an advanced geometric planning system that scans the patients allowing the physician to locate the tumor, determine its volume and shape, and mark the areas to be treated. The ADAC Three Dimensional Planning System integrates the images acquired from the CT Scan with computer models to determine the optimum energy levels, angles of delivery, and duration.
The administration of external beam radiation therapy requires the production of high energy photon energies which are generated through a Linear Accelerator. At Orange Regional Medical Center's Eleanor T. Snow Radiation Oncology Center, our state-of-the-art Siemens Primus Digital Dual High Energy Linear Accelerator is considered the most sophisticated and versatile unit of its kind. Utilizing this technology, our radiation oncology team possesses the ability to treat superficial tumors (tumors close to the surface of the skin), as well as those tumors located deep within the body. In effect, this technology insures our ability to treat every cancer patient requiring "external beam radiation."
