When you are admitted to Orange Regional Medical Center, your Primary Care Physician may ask a special group of physicians, called Hospitalists, to care for you.

The Hospitalist Program at Orange Regional Medical Center - is just one more way we provide you with the high quality care you need and deserve in your community, close to home.

What Is A Hospitalist?

A Hospitalist is a physician whose entire attention is directed toward caring for hospitalized patients. Just like your Primary Care Physician, Hospitalists are trained in Internal Medicine and other specialties. Hospitalists do not maintain outside offices, giving them the opportunity to devote all of their time on patients inside the hospital.

How Does The Hospitalist Work With My Doctor?

Since your Primary Care Physician spends most of the day at his or her office outside of the hospital, he or she cannot always be at your bedside when emergencies or concerns arise. The Hospitalist will maintain regular communication with your doctor during your stay. In turn, your Primary Care Physician can provide the Hospitalist with valuable information about your past medical history, medications, and special needs. Upon discharge, the Hospitalist will consult with your doctor to plan your future course of care.

How Can A Hospitalist Benefit Me?

In addition to managing and coordinating your care in the hospital, your Hospitalist can answer your questions and address any concerns you may have in a timely manner. Plus, by being familiar with every specialist and department in the hospital, the Hospitalist can promptly follow up on test results and treatments. This results in high quality care for you. The Hospitalist Service also employs a Patient Care Coordinator that works on your behalf. She works with you and the hospital staff to ensure an excellent hospital stay while working towards a smooth transition for your day of discharge.

What If My Family Has Questions?

Your Hospitalist physician can respond to questions and concerns from both you and your family members. Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturday - Sunday, 6:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

What Happens When I Leave the Hospital?

Before you are discharged, necessary prescription arrangements will be made and you'll receive both verbal and written instructions on what you should do to continue your medical care. Your Hospitalist will contact your Primary Care Physician and forward appropriate records to his or her office. Once you leave the hospital, it is imperative that you follow through with your discharge instructions, including making necessary follow-up appointments with your primary physician. If you do not have a Primary Care Physician, call our Health Connection Hotline toll-free at 1-888-321-ORMC (6762). One of our advisors will assist you in locating a physician close to home. Since Hospitalists do not see patients outside of the hospital, you'll want to direct any questions or concerns to your primary doctor once you've been discharged.

Billing Questions

You may receive bills from both the hospital and the Hospitalist. In some cases, you may also receive bills from other physicians and services involved in your care. For assistance with questions regarding your hospital bills or insurance coverage, please call Orange Regional Medical Center Patient Accounting at 845-333-2455. For assistance with questions regarding your Hospitalist physician bill, please call 1-800-821-2443.
