Spiritual Support

Patients, families, staff, community – and really, everyone can benefit from pastoral care. Garnet Health recognizes the role and impact of spiritual care in the treatment of illness and support of overall health. Our staff chaplains and dedicated local clergy members are available to respond to the spiritual needs of our patients, their families and staff members. Our pastoral care staff offers a diverse approach to ensuring the respect and dignity of all religious and spiritual traditions, meeting individuals where they are spiritually and emotionally.

Who provides pastoral care

Garnet Health Medical Center’s Pastoral Care Program is staffed by certified and experienced hospital chaplains. In addition, local clergy members and volunteers assist our chaplains with visitations and religious services throughout the week. Garnet Health Medical Center welcomes community clergy to visit their congregation members, and our staff connects patients with their religious representatives when requested.

You may consider contacting the Pastoral Care office when:

  • Experiencing conflict, despair or overwhelming feelings
  • Confronting serious illness
  • Facing surgery
  • Facing difficult ethical decisions
  • In need of prayer, meditation or other religious traditions
  • In need of anointing of the sick, confession, communion or baptism
  • In need of religious texts and/or other objects of spiritual significance
  • In need of a supportive and non-judgmental spiritual perspective

The Pastoral Care office and Chapel are on the first floor, to the right of the Guest Services desk.

Hours

Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The Chapel, accessible 24 hours a day, is available to patients, visitors and the general public. It offers a quiet place for prayer, contemplation, meditation and religious services for all faiths and traditions. Religious services including Catholic Mass, Protestant worship services and Jewish prayer services are offered in the chapel at designated times throughout the week. They can be viewed on Ch. 94 on the hospital’s closed-circuit television system. A Shabbos room is also available and is on the ground floor.

Support Services

Our Pastoral Care Program also offers the following to patients and their families:

  • Televised services in patient rooms (via channel 94)
  • Dial-A-Prayer Program: If you would like a member of our Clergy to pray for you or a loved one, please call our Prayer Line at extension 1255 and leave your intentions.
  • A Shabbos Room is available to the Jewish community for comfort and nourishment. It is located on the ground floor of the hospital.
  • A number of local Rabbis are available to visit the hospital
  • A Catholic Priest is available to hear Confessions and to administer the Sacrament of the Sick to our patients

Bibles, Qur’ans, electric Shabbos candles, prayer cards, rosaries, Scapulars and devotional books are all available upon request. Prayer rugs are also provided inside of the Chapel.

Garnet Health Medical Center – Catskills Chapel is located on our 5th floor. Our Chesed Shabbos Room is also located on the 5th floor.

How to Request Clergy Services

Patients and family members can request Clergy members through any of our staff members. 

To request a visit by a clergy member, please contact the Community Service Office at extension 2185 between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM or speak with a member of your care team. They will gladly assist you.

Bibles, Qur’ans, and electric Shabbos candles are available upon request.
