Healing Arts Program
At Orange Regional Medical Center, we believe that art is an important part of patient-centered care and essential to our healing environment. Emerging evidence in healthcare design shows that art, integrated into hospitals, reduces stress and improves well-being. In our nurturing setting, we use art to create a welcoming environment for patients, families, staff and the community. Art graces our hallways, common areas and patient rooms, providing a sense of inspiration and calm.

Orange Regional’s art collection is integrated into our complete healing environment. Artwork in a variety of mediums –paintings, photographs, prints, and textiles– fills the hospital with visual interest. Art is acquired through commissions, donations, and purchases. The Gallery at ORMC exhibits both emerging and mid-career contemporary artists with a special focus on professional artists from the Hudson Valley.
Fabled Forest Mural
Fishkill-based artist, Steven James Petruccio created the Fabled Forest Mural as the showpiece of Orange Regional’s Children’s Emergency Department. This hand-painted twenty-five foot mural transforms the environment of a hospital waiting room into a vast woodland landscape with detailed illustrations of Orange County animals and their habitats.
Within the landscape, the artist developed small vignettes based on Aesop’s Fables. An illustrated brochure, coordinated to the mural, includes fun facts, stories, and interactive 'look and find' activities. At the base of the mural a two foot high stone wall facade replicates the look of an old stone wall typical of Orange County. This program is funded, in part, by Orange County Tourism and the County of Orange.
