Orange Regional Medical Center Announces Associate Medical Director of the Center for Sleep Medicine

Middletown, NY- Orange Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Ofer Jacobowitz, MD, PhD as Associate Medical Director of the Center for Sleep Medicine. In this role, Dr. Jacobowitz, an Otolaryngologist, will work closely with Dr. Alan Schaffer, Sleep Center Medical Director and Frank Salvatore, Director of Respiratory Services and the Center for Sleep Medicine, to oversee and develop sleep study- specific programs.

Dr. Jacobowitz is a seasoned clinician with more than 15 years experience in Otolaryngology. He is an active member of national sleep committees and task forces and served as Orange Regional's Department Chairman of Otolaryngology from 2007-2010. Dr. Jacobowitz is a national speaker, author and editor of sleep publications and is a Partner with Hudson Valley Ear, Nose and Throat P.C. Dr. Jacobowitz completed his Medical School training at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, in New York and completed his residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Sleep study services performed at Orange Regional's Center for Sleep Medicine aid in the diagnosis of potential sleep disorders. A sleep study is a painless, non-invasive test that allows specially- trained technicians to monitor your breathing, heart rate, the oxygen levels in your blood, your eye movement, muscle tone and other factors. Sleep studies take place in our state-of-the-art facility and offer the latest diagnostic technology in a new and comfortable bedroom. The bedroom is equipped with individual temperature-controlled settings, a flat screen television and private bathroom, so our guests can be as relaxed as possible. A continental breakfast or lunch is also provided. The Center for Sleep Medicine also diagnoses pediatric patients five years of age and above and provides accommodations for parents.

The Center for Sleep Medicine has been relocated to a newly-constructed facility located at the Orange Regional Medical Pavilion, 75 Crystal Run Road, Suite G-22 in Middletown, New York. Orange Regional's Center for Sleep Medicine is an accredited center of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Orange Regional Medical Center Unveils New Hospital Video

Middletown, NY- Orange Regional Medical Center has created a computer animated video of its new hospital currently under construction at 707 East Main Street in Middletown, New York. The video is just under five minutes long and provides a highly accurate view of what the new hospital will look like when it opens its doors in third quarter of 2011. Viewers are presented with each floor of the hospital which features warm, inviting and contemporary décor that is conducive to a healing environment. The new hospital contains 353 private patient rooms and features:

Orange Regional Medical Center's Peter Frommer, M.D. Heart Center was first in Orange County to offer diagnostic, emergency and elective angioplasty: a minimally invasive cardiac procedure to diagnose blockages in the heart. Orange Regional Medical Center Names Star of the Year Recipient

Middletown, NY -  Barbara Place-Moreau, Licensed Practical Nurse, has been named Orange Regional's 2010 Star of the Year. The All-Star Employee Recognition Program was created to acknowledge the outstanding performance of Orange Regional's employees and volunteers for their positive impact on the quality of patient care services.

 



Barbara is a 29-year nursing professional who began working for the organization 17 years ago. Throughout her career, she has made quality patient care her number one priority and exemplifies Orange Regional's mission to improve the health of our community by providing exceptional healthcare.

"Barbara is known for taking care of her patients as if they were members of her own family," said Ann Diagostino, Tower 5 Nursing Director. "She provides excellent clinical care and customer service to all of her patients with compassion and skill."

Barbara's devotion to her patients is evident in all she does, often going above and beyond in many ways on a daily basis. She does not stop at providing quality clinical care. She realizes a patient's overall wellbeing helps to further promote healing and recovery, ultimately providing overall patient satisfaction. Barbara has found that patients feel better when they are comfortable with their appearance. That's why Barbara has gone the extra step to help some patients look their best by providing makeovers during their stay. Donating jewelry, a curling iron and make-up, as well as her time to assist in a makeover, truly touched one patient. Barbara's ability to demonstrate genuine care and compassion and her skill for delivering quality clinical care is what earned her Orange Regional Medical Center's 2010 Shooting Star Award.

Orange Regional Medical Center Offers Free Mammograms

February 14, 2011

Middletown, NY - Orange Regional Medical Center will host free breast cancer screenings on Saturday, March 5, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Ray W. Moody, M.D. Breast Center located at the Orange Regional Medical Pavilion, 75 Crystal Run Road in Middletown. Appointments are limited and must be made by Friday, March 4, 2011. Pre-registration is required. Snow day will be March 12, 2011.

The hour-long screening will include a clinical breast exam, mammography and breast health education and training. The screening is open to women with and without health insurance. Participants of the screening must be over 40 years of age, under 40 with a high risk of breast cancer/first degree relative family history of breast cancer and must not have a primary-care physician and have not had a mammogram within a year's time.

Orange Regional Medical Centers Hosts Free Educational Seminar on Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery
 

February 11, 2011

Middletown, NY - Orange Regional Medical Center will host a free educational seminar "Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery" on Tuesday, March 1 at 6:00 p.m. at the Community Health Education Center, 110 Crystal Run Road in Middletown. Orange Regional's Bariatric Support Group will meet immediately following the seminar. This support group is for both pre- and post-op weight loss surgical patients and is open to the general public. The topic that will be discussed at the support group will be psychology - dealing with cravings/dealing with the loss of food.

Join Janet Kovler, M.S., R.D., C.D.N., C.D.E., Orange Regional's Bariatric Surgical Services Coordinator, for this information-filled seminar where obesity treatment options including non-surgical approaches and gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and gastric banding surgery will be discussed by one of Orange Regional Medical Center's Board-certified, Fellowship-trained bariatric surgeons.

Middletown - Orange Regional Medical Center's Center for Sleep Medicine has relocated to its newly constructed facility in the Orange Regional Medical Pavilion located at 75 Crystal Run Road, Suite G-22 in Middletown, NY.

The Center for Sleep Medicine offers patients an inviting, contemporary facility designed with the latest technology to diagnose sleep disorders within a relaxing environment. Patients take comfort in a private bedroom equipped with individual temperature controlled settings, a flat screen television and private bath. Continental breakfast or lunch is provided to all patients. The Center for Sleep Medicine is led by Alan Schaffer, MD, who has been practicing Sleep Medicine since 1995 and is also staffed by Board-certified physicians and specially-trained technicians. The Center also diagnoses pediatric patients five years and above and provides accommodations for parents and guardians.
