Ongoing Clinical Education at Orange Regional Medical CenterJune 24th, 2009
Middletown, NY - As part of the hospital's commitment to ongoing clinical education, Orange Regional Medical Center has introduced a series of live Clinical Pathologic Conference case presentations, also known as Grand Rounds. Grand Rounds are formal presentations at which physicians within a specific medical field discuss clinical cases of one or more anonymous patients. These monthly presentations allow Orange Regional to share advanced medical findings and techniques with the hospital's employees for educational purposes as well as enable employees to better articulate services, procedures and their benefits to patients.
"The grand rounds series has highlighted the talent we have on staff at Orange Regional," said Dr. James Oxley, Medical Director at Orange Regional Medical Center. "The quality of these presentations rivals any grand rounds series I have seen."
Grand Rounds originated as part of residency training at teaching hospitals, where new information was taught and clinical reasoning skills were enhanced. Today, Grand Rounds are an integral part of ongoing medical education. Orange Regional's Grand Rounds focus on an array of sub-specialties that affect patients within the community and have included Emergency Medicine, Cardiology, Spine Care and Neurology among other medical topics.

"More than any other issue, what we do with health care on a national level, affects people every day in their personal lives."
The Congressman added that the healthcare stakeholders and experts he brought together to talk about what's wrong, are the individuals who spend every day immersed in this issue.
"I wanted to hear from them, first-hand, about their experiences. I was there to listen to their viewpoints on what's working, what's not working, what pieces need major overhaul, what needs just a few tweaks, and of course what we should leave alone," said the Congressman.
