Greater Hudson Valley Health System Names Dr. Gerard Galarneau President of Medical Group
The Greater Hudson Valley Health System (GHVHS), comprised of Catskill Regional Medical Center, Orange Regional Medical Center, Catskill Regional Medical Group and Orange Regional Medical Group, is pleased to announce the appointment of Gerard Galarneau, MD to a new role as President of the GHVHS Medical Group. In addition, Dr. Galarneau will continue to serve as Chief Medical Officer of Catskill Regional Medical Center (CRMC).
In his new role, Dr. Galarneau will lead the GHVHS Medical Group, comprised of Orange Regional Medical Group and Catskill Regional Medical Group. The multi-specialty medical practices provide outpatient and inpatient care and has grown substantially over the past three years and features over 130 providers specializing in Hospitalist Care, Critical Care, Orthopedics, Trauma, Urology, General Surgery, Oncology, Infectious Disease, Palliative Care, Behavioral Health, Primary Care, Cardiology, Urgent Care, Pediatrics. The Medical Group also is becoming a driving force for program leadership, high quality care and medical education for the health system. The Medical Group currently has offices in Middletown, Monroe, Harris, Callicoon, Livingston Manor, and most recently opened an Urgent Care/Primary Care office in Monticello/Town of Thompson.
Dr. Galarneau has a strong and accomplished leadership history with the Greater Hudson Valley Health System, holding positions within the System since 2002. In 2013, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Officer of Catskill Regional Medical Center. With Dr. Galarneau at the helm, successes at Catskill Regional Medical Center have included interior and exterior renovations; the transformation of 50 percent of triple bedded rooms to private and semi-private; and increases in employee engagement and patient satisfaction. The hospital also achieved Stroke Center designation, 5 Star Healthgrades Award for Stroke and treatment of Myocardial Infarction, created a Bariatric Surgery Program and constructed a new Primary Care and Urgent Care office.
Dr. Galarneau is Board-certified in Urology and practices with Catskill Regional Medical Group in Harris, NY. Prior to serving as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Officer of Catskill Regional Medical Center, he held the positions of Chairman of the Institutional Review Board and Bioethics Committee, Chairman of the Medical Executive Committee and Chairman of the Department at Urology while on staff at Orange Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Galarneau received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton and earned his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla. He completed his residency at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York where he served as Chief Resident and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Medical Management at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
