Middletown, NY – On October 19, 2010, 51 Orange Regional Medical Center employees and physicians graduated from the Epic System Corporation’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) certification program. Epic, a leader in EHR technology, is partnering with Orange Regional to implement an EHR System.
Orange Regional employees and physicians from various departments including Information Technology; Medical Staff; Nursing; Quality; Scheduling; Pharmacy; Radiology; Health Information Management and Training, Education and Development received certification to operate Orange Regional’s new EHR system that is currently being installed. Training for the certification was specifically designed for each area of the installation and included classroom instruction, a required study period, an online project and a timed exam for each course. Once all projects and exams were complete, analyst certification was granted to employees showing the proficiency needed to accomplish the assigned tasks. Now certified, the analysts are performing the hands-on construction of Orange Regional’s EHR system and are customizing applications for specific departmental areas.
“We now have certified, fully-trained analysts building and implementing Orange Regional’s EHR system with the Epic vendor,” said Orange Regional Medical Center Chief Information Officer, Dr. Shafiq Rab. “This core group, consisting of a multitude of positions, will work together to ensure the best workflows are built and utilized to continue providing high quality patient care.”
Orange Regional’s Board of Directors approved the purchase and installation of the EHR system earlier this year. This initiative will enable Orange Regional to create an electronic health record for each patient that is accessible throughout the hospital, in physician offices and in patient homes. Key features of the EHR will include an integrated and interoperable Electronic Health Record for each patient.
