Middletown, NY – Orange Regional Medical Center and Catskill Regional Medical Center will present a free and informative diabetes program “Getting to the Heart of Diabetes” on Saturday, November 21, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. at Orange Regional Medical Center, 707 East Main Street, Middletown, NY. Diabetes educators and experienced physicians knowledgeable about diabetes will be on hand to discuss topics such as Diabetes: It’s the Heart of the Matter, The ABCs of Caring for Your Heart, Healthy Heart Eating Tips and more. Guest speakers will include Endocrinologist, Elliott Friedman, MD, Cardiologist, Inderpal Singh, MD and Orange Regional Medical Center Educator and Registered Dietitian, Shelly DeHaan, RD, CDE.
According to the American Diabetes Association, over 29.1 million children and adults in the United States – 9.3% of the population – have diabetes. In 2012, 1.7 million new cases of diabetes were diagnosed in children and adults. Diet, insulin, and oral medication to lower blood glucose levels are the foundation of diabetes treatment and management. Patient education and self-care practices are also important aspects of disease management that help people with diabetes lead normal lives.
