Orange Regional Medical Center Appoints Manager of Clinical Research and Oncology Community Outreach

Middletown, NY – Orange Regional Medical Center’s Spagnoli Family Cancer Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Jessica Gerlach, CCRP to Manager of Clinical Research and Oncology Community Outreach. Ms. Gerlach has an extensive background in clinical trials including pharmaceutical research and NCI Cooperative Group research, and she has worked on clinical trials at Orange Regional since 2005. She is a Certified Clinical Research Professional through the Society of Clinical Research Professionals (SoCRA) and a lead CRA with Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG).

Ms. Gerlach coordinates the Institutional Review Board which approves and reviews all human studies and ensures compliance with all requirements for patients enrolled in clinical trials. She oversees oncology screenings and oncology education events at Orange Regional and screens and enrolls eligible patients for leading edge, high priority, nationally recognized clinical trials.

During her time at Orange Regional, Ms. Gerlach has expanded the clinical trials program from Oncology trials to other types of clinical trials including a first Phase 1 device trial for sleep apnea. Ms. Gerlach has also worked closely with the marketing department in developing an interactive clinical trials page of the Web site that helps match patients with available trials for their particular type of cancer. Ms. Gerlach was also instrumental in establishing Orange Regional’s main member status with Southwest Oncology Group, a status normally reserved for academic medical centers. The clinical trials program at Orange Regional was recently recognized during the Commission on Cancer and National Accreditation Program for Breast Center surveys for outstanding performance.

Additionally, Ms. Gerlach’s will also serve as a liaison to Touro College and its students as they pursue clinical research opportunities during their education at Orange Regional as well as assist ORMC’s nursing research committee with quality and site initiated projects.
