Middletown, NY – Gerard Galarneau, MD, a practicing partner at Middletown Urologic Associates and Chair of Orange Regional Medical Center’s Medical Staff has announced his participation in the 2009 Walt Disney World Marathon on January 11, 2009 to raise $10,000 for the construction of Orange Regional Medical Center’s new hospital in the Town of Wallkill. The 26.2 mile course runs through all four Walt Disney World theme parks – Epcot, Magic Kingdom Park, Animal Kingdom Theme Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios – in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
Many runners participating in the marathon run on behalf of a charity or non-profit. For Dr. Galarneau, a board-certified urologist, the $21 million Building for Excellence capital campaign was an easy and obvious choice to support. His participation also serves as a great way to get his patients directly involved in the capital campaign. “The new hospital is going to mean so much for the community as far as providing the type of healthcare our patients really count on,” Dr. Galarneau said. “With the current state of today’s economy, it’s important not to overlook the opportunity to create a state-of-the-art hospital. But without the funds, it won’t happen.”
Dr. Galarneau along with his practice partner Dr. David Cohen are asking patients and community members to support Dr. Galarneau by making a donation on his behalf. Middletown Urologic Associates will then match all combined donations up to $10,000. “Another reason I’m participating in this run is to convey to the other medical practices the importance of donating,” Dr. Galarneau said. “Our patients in the community won’t be the only ones benefiting; the physicians in the community will as well. And with a relatively small practice like ours making the commitment we have, I hope we are sending a very important message.”
Orange Regional is currently in construction on a new seven-floor, 374-bed hospital. Once completed in 2011 it will be one of the largest free standing hospitals between the Tappan Zee Bridge and Albany. Located on 61 acres on East Main Street near the Route 17 and I-84 interchange in the Town of Wallkill, the new facility will feature a state-of-the-art, patient-centered hospital where the highest quality healthcare will be easily accessible.
