Orange Regional Medical Center Nurse Named 1199SEIU Nurse Preceptor of 2005

Middletown, NY) – Orange Regional Medical Center is proud to announce Melissa Anderson, RN is the recipient of the 1199SEIU, 2005 Nurse Preceptor of the Year award. 1199SEIU is a union of healthcare workers employed in hospitals and nursing homes pharmacies, freestanding clinics and other healthcare settings.

A preceptor is an individual educated to train and provide orientation to newly hired employees within a specific department. Over 750 nurses from across New York attended 1199 Nurse of Distinction award gala on May 8, 2006. The event, held at Tavern on the Terrace in Flushing Meadow Park, Queens, pays tribute to the hard work, dedication and compassion of RNs.

The event recognizes outstanding colleagues in a range of categories. 1199 nurses employed by hospitals and nursing homes across the state (including many New York City institutions) attend the event and vie for top honors. Each individual is nominated by peers in their workplace, followed by an interview with 1199 judges which leads to one award winner per category. Melissa left the event with a trophy and monetary award.

Melissa’s nomination letter expressed the admiration of her peers. “Melissa knows that the novice transition requires patience, understanding, team building and service excellence,” says Susan O’Boyle, director of nursing professional practice. “She takes personal satisfaction in enhancing orientee skills and the way nursing care is delivered.”
