Orange Regional Medical Center Partners with Operation Dalmatian to Spread Holiday Cheer to Families in Our Community

December 4, 2014

Middletown, NY – Orange Regional Medical Center will partner with Operation Dalmatian in collecting new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages in the community, from December 3 through December 19. Gifts can be dropped off at Orange Regional’s main Hospital campus, located at 707 East Main Street or at the Orange Regional Medical Group located at 75 Crystal Run Road, Suite 135, in Middletown.

Operation Dalmatian was established in 1999 and is a nonprofit organization with a mission to bring local businesses, schools, organizations, churches and the Walden Fire Department together to provide Orange County children in need with holiday gifts. The organization was founded by Pastor of Walden Baptist Church and Chaplain of Walden Fire Department, The Reverend Jim Van Houten and Past Chief of Walden Fire Department, James Griffin. James Griffin has since retired from the Fire Department and Operation Dalmatian, but The Reverend James Van Houten, his wife Dawn Van Houten and his daughters Katherine Bergmann and Rebecca Van Houten continue to run the program.

“I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without my family,” said The Reverend Van Houten. “Every year we have touching stories that really hit home for us. To be able to give from the heart and bring joy to families in our community is one of the best gifts we could receive.”

Over the years, the list of children and families Operation Dalmatian helps has grown from 50 to well over 400. Last year, 550 children from 300 families were given gifts, with each child receiving three gifts each.

Applications for families are located at the Walden Police Department, the Good Samaritan, Valley Central School District Nurses Offices and the Walden Post Office. Gifts can also be dropped off at the Walden Police Department, Walden Fire Department, Walden Baptist Church (Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.), Curves in Montgomery, Walden Savings Bank, Walden Post Office and the Good Samaritan.
