Orange Regional Medical Center Presents New Art Exhibit

February 10, 2014

Middletown, NY- Orange Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce a new commissioned children’s mural and companion exhibit, The Colorful Art of Nestor Madalengoitia, featuring vibrant paintings by the Hudson Valley portrait and mural artist, Nestor Madalengoita. The opening reception with the artist will be held on Friday, February 14, 2014 from 10:00am-12:00pm at Orange Regional Medical Center located at 707 East Main Street, Middletown on the ground floor gallery.

Orange Regional commissioned Madalengoitia to paint a mural for a family waiting room on the first floor of the hospital. The colorful painting highlights familiar, comforting scenes inspired by Orange County farmland, with animals and hot air balloons, to create a child-friendly environment and experience. “Painting allows me to interact with the subjects of my community, whether that community is my family, my neighborhood, or the community of the world,” says Madalengoitia.

A related exhibit features a selection of Madalengoitia’s artwork. In a series of large paintings, the artist paints his family in moments of domestic tranquility. Madalengoitia lives and works in Poughkeepsie, NY. The exhibit will be on display until April 11. The Colorful Art of Nestor Madalengoitia is part of Orange Regional’s ongoing program of changing exhibits featuring quality artwork by contemporary artists. “We display artwork that evokes hope and healing to benefit visitors, patients and staff,” says Orange Regional’s Art Curator, Sarah Johnson. Art is integrated into patient rooms and common areas throughout the hospital as part of Orange Regional’s healing environment.
