Orange Regional Medical Center Supports World Breastfeeding Week

Rowley Family Birthing Center Participates in The Global Big Latch On

(Middletown, NY) – On August 5, Orange Regional Medical Center’s Rowley Family Birthing Center will participate in The Global Big Latch On in support of World Breastfeeding Week. The Global Big Latch On takes place at registered locations around the world, where women gather together to breastfeed and offer peer support to each other. The event will be held in Orange Regional’s Conference Center, located at 707 East Main Street in Middletown. Participants must register by calling 1-888-321-6762 or online at www.ormc.org/communityoutreach. Check in begins at 10:00 a.m. and The Big Latch On begins promptly at 10:30 a.m.

In addition to The Big Latch On, Orange Regional’s Rowley Family Birthing Center will offer its prenatal breastfeeding class free of charge on August 4 and on August 11. Participation is limited and registration is required by calling 1-888-321-6762 or by visiting www.ormc.org/communityoutreach. The Rowley Family Birthing Center also offers a New Moms’ Support Group which meets every Tuesday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Courtyard Marriott located at 24 Crystal Run Crossing in Middletown. The support group welcomes new mothers and their babies to share experiences, discuss questions with other new moms, exchange ideas and challenges, gain knowledge and learn skills regarding newborn care and parenting. World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is celebrated every year, August 1 through August 7, in more than 120 countries to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world.

About the Rowley Family Birthing Center
The entire sixth floor of Orange Regional’s state-of-the-art facility is dedicated to the Rowley Family Birthing Center, where moms deliver in a nurturing, safe and comfortable environment while having the privacy they need during this special time. Level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care provides advanced and specialized newborn care.

To ensure the needs of mother and baby are met in complete comfort and privacy, the birthing center includes a high-tech security system, 12 private labor/delivery and recovery rooms, 23 private post-partum rooms, private triage rooms and 2 operating rooms for caesarean delivery. Each room has a bathroom with a soothing shower, 300-thread count linens, scenic views, HDTV, an individual thermostat and sleeper sofa for your birthing partner. Carpeted hallways help create a quiet and more peaceful environment for rest and recovery. Room service is also available.

International Board-certified Lactation Consultants are available to provide both inpatient and outpatient support services to breastfeeding mothers. Prenatal breastfeeding classes and the option to rent hospital-grade, electric breast pumps, are available. The Center’s experienced and caring nurses attend to patient’s emotional and physical needs and work to fully support each birthing plan. Nurses work with care providers and guide families through the experience from preparations for birth through delivery and post-partum care.
