Middletown, NY- On Monday, January 20, 2014, Orange Regional Medical Center held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of its Children’s Emergency Department. Hospital staff, Board members, physicians and community members were in attendance as Scott Batulis, Orange Regional’s President & CEO spoke about the need for a separate treatment area set apart from the adult patients currently seen in the Hospital’s main emergency department. The Department opened its doors on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 and is now officially open to the community.
The newly constructed Department offers child-specific private treatment rooms, a triage area and a dedicated nurse’s station. Each room is uniquely enhanced with hand-painted murals and custom artwork by local artists that calm children’s fears and anxieties. Treatment rooms are also fitted with flat-screen televisions to help distract children from their illness or injury.
The Children’s Emergency Department boasts Board-certified emergency physicians, specially trained nurses experienced in pediatric care, a Child Life Specialist and access to pediatric specialists who have completed additional training in specialized fields of Pediatric medicine.
