Orange Regional Medical Center’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit Receives Accolades from Accrediting Regulatory Agency

June 12, 2014

Middletown, NY – Orange Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce its Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit has received accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) through April 2017 and has demonstrated exemplary compliance during its participation in a recent survey.

CARF is an organization that surveys healthcare facilities internationally and promotes quality, value and optimal outcomes through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of patients. Participation in a CARF survey is voluntary.

During the survey, two surveyors, a physical therapist and an administrator, observed patient care, reviewed documentation and policies, interviewed patients, directors, physicians, referral sources and staff from all disciplines. As a result of the survey, CARF was extremely complimentary of Orange Regional’s level of compliance with its standards and dedication to providing quality patient care and found the unit to provide exemplary compliance in many areas.

“The surveyors identified that Orange Regional has a rare program since, after two days of intense review, there were no substantive findings and, as such, Orange Regional has joined a very small and elite group of (CARF) programs internationally,” said Sandra Iberger, Vice President, Operations.”It should be noted that this re-accreditation represents the 7th successful CARF survey by Orange Regional’s Inpatient Rehabilitation team, who continually demonstrate an established pattern of practice excellence which has spanned over 21 years of service.”

The patients Orange Regional serves in its Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit are typically impaired in strength and activity level. Inpatient Rehabilitation involves the team work of physicians, rehabilitation nurses and nursing assistants, case managers, physical and occupational therapists and assistants, speech language pathologists, a recreation therapist, a neuropsychologist, and support staff working to help the patient and their family members to reach their goals.
