(Middletown, NY) – Orange Regional Medical Center’s Palliative Care Patient Navigator, Eileen Schmidt, LCSW, ACHP-SW was the recipient of the 2016 Award for Excellence in Clinical Practice in Palliative Care at the Social Work Hospice and Palliative Care Network (SWHPN) Annual Assembly.
The Excellence in Clinical Practice in Palliative Care and Palliative Social Work Award honors a palliative social worker who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in interdisciplinary collaboration, and contributions to the advancement of Palliative Social Work.
“Eileen consistently demonstrates excellence through her professional practice, leadership, research and education,” said Medical Director of Palliative Care, Dr. Emma Fattakhov. “Her honors, awards, and reputation in her area of specialization in addition to the sentiment of her peers and patients, speak volumes about her performance.”
As a patient navigator, Eileen provides one-on-one support service with expert guidance to patients receiving palliative care treatment. Patient navigation services ensure that a patient’s needs are met in a timely manner, questions are answered and fears and anxiety are addressed with compassion.

The Social Work Hospice & Palliative Care Network (SWHPN) is committed to fostering and encouraging social work excellence in psychosocial research, education, and clinical practice in palliative care. Each year, SWHPN members nominate their peers to recognize outstanding achievements in social work hospice and palliative care.
