Orange Regional’s Rehabilitation Unit Receives Accreditation from the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities

August 26, 2008

(Middletown, NY) – Orange Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce that its Rehabilitation Unit at the Horton Campus has once again received accreditation from the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and demonstrated exemplary compliance during its participation in a recent triennial survey.

CARF is an organization that surveys healthcare facilities and promotes quality, value and optimal outcomes through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of patients. Participation in this a CARF survey is voluntary.

During the CARF survey, two surveyors, a physician and an administrator observed patient care, reviewed documentation and policies, interviewed patients, directors, physicians, referral sources and staff from all disciplines. As a result of the survey, CARF was complimentary of Orange Regional’s level of compliance with its standards and dedication to providing quality patient care and found the unit to provide exemplary compliance in many areas.

“The rehabilitation team at Orange Regional is extremely proud of our CARF accreditation,” said Jerry Dunlavey, Administrator of Orthopedic, Neuroscience, Rehabilitation and Oncology Services. “We believe that this certification is a sign of our organization’s commitment to provide exceptional clinical care to our patients. We are truly fortunate to have such a committed group of physicians and clinical staff in our rehabilitation center.”

The patients Orange Regional serves in the rehabilitation unit are typically impaired in strength and activity level. Rehabilitation involves the team work of physicians, rehabilitation nurses and nursing assistants, case managers, physical and occupational therapists and assistants, speech language pathologists, a recreation therapist, a neuropsychologist, and support staff working to help the patient and their family members to reach their goals.

Orange Regional Medical Center’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Services, offered at both the Horton and Arden Hill Campuses, are designed to meet the needs of our community by providing an individualized program for each patient. Orange Regional Medical Center also provides Outpatient Rehabilitation Services including Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Speech Therapy.
