Elizabeth Cantline: Profiles in Giving

December 1, 2015

Elizabeth (Beth) Cantline has a very pragmatic view on hospitals — “sooner or later, everybody needs one.” It’s this no-nonsense approach to life that inspired the 93-year-old Goshen resident to donate stock to Orange Regional Medical Center’s Building for Excellence capital campaign.

The daughter of a general practice physician, Beth grew up in a household that contained a functioning doctor’s office. “I was exposed to the medical environment at a very young age,” she says. “I think that helped me develop a better understanding and appreciation of medicine and healthcare.”

Elizabeth CantlineWhen Beth and her husband Peter moved into the Glen Arden retirement community the year of their 55th wedding anniversary, they were no strangers to Orange Regional Medical Center (ORMC). “We had both been patients there on various occasions, and always received excellent care,” Beth says.

For nearly a decade, the Cantlines have been supporters of Orange Regional. After Peter passed away in 2005, Beth decided to give something back to the hospital that had provided them with such high-quality and compassionate care and recently made a capital campaign gift as well.

Beth Cantline’s philanthropic nature extends beyond the walls of Orange Regional Medical Center. A graduate of Skidmore College and Julliard School of Music, Beth, who has played the piano since the age of eight, donates her talent to the residents of Glen Arden, playing monthly at the facility’s healthcare and assisted living centers, she also gives weekly performances in Glen Arden’s “pub,” a gathering place for residents of the continuing care center. She also provides musical entertainment for special occasions.

It’s obvious from watching her perform that music is her passion. As long as Beth is healthy, she’ll continue to play. She knows that when completed, the new Orange Regional Medical Center will be there to meet her needs. “I’m glad to know the new hospital will be here to serve us all well.”
