The NOW OPEN Outpatient Building houses nearly all of Orange Regional’s outpatient services previously located at the Orange Regional Medical Pavilion on Crystal Run Road.

Every day, patients, their families and employees can be seen walking around our hospital. Some make it part of their everyday walking goals. Others use a brisk walk or leisurely stroll to relax and reduce tension while waiting for loving ones receiving care. A formalized walk with exercise stops will encourage healthy activity and showcase the beauty and vitality of our hospital campus.

Construction workers have already placed macadam on the walk for ORMC's Fitness TrailOrange Regional Medical Center recently completed a major expansion with a a five story outpatient building, a new, full service cancer center and over 800 parking spaces. This construction provided a timely and unique opportunity to create a walking and exercise path that can be used by patients, families, and staff in support of their stress reduction and overall good health.

The Fitness Trail Plan
Essentially, the Walkway follows the hospital’s “ring road” which circles the far areas of the parking areas and tracks from the parking main entrance to north and then east to the emergency room entrance. The walking area is a remarkably quiet and level area that moves along the campus’ “green boundary” and includes rock walls, wet lands lined with trees, brush and natural glacial erratics. With two ponds, a stream, and wooded borders, the campus is an attraction for wildlife including migrating birds.

Why do we need to raise money?
The Fitness Trail was not budgeted as part of the hospital expansion program. The ORMC Foundation agreed to raise nearly $200,000 needed to excavate and pave the walkway and purchase and install exercise stanchions to create a complete exercise work out. Gifts to the Fitness Trail Campaign will be counted as part of $3.3 million The Future is Orange Campaign which is funding the overall expansion program.

Graduate Medical Education Program at Orange Regional Medical CenterAcademic Medicine and Research

Orange Regional’s journey to academic medicine will require additional resources to support medical research, educational projects and conferences for medical students, residents and eventually fellowships.

In its partnership with Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, the hospital is accepting 3rd and 4th year medical students with already approved residency programs in family medicine (2014), psychiatry, traditional rotating internship, emergency medicine (2015), surgery and internal medicine (2016). The total number of students and residents will grow each year with a cap in the 2020-2021.

Touro will support the hospital with 3rd and 4th year Medical Student Rotations and there is also Medicare funding, but nothing is perpetually certain. The Medical Education Program, as structured, is expected to “break even” in the first few years.

A naming opportunity for an endowment fund is envisioned to fund research and ongoing “out of program” conference attendance for students and speaker honorariums.

Special Endowment Naming Opportunity: The Campaign will seek $250,000 to establish a medical research endowment fund with the Orange Regional Foundation matching with another $250,000.

Orange Regional Medical Center believes that art can be medicine.

Arts in Healthcare is a diverse, multidisciplinary field dedicated to transforming the healthcare experience by connecting people with the power of the arts at key moments in their lives. This rapidly growing field integrates the arts, including literary, performing, and visual arts and design, into a wide variety of healthcare and community settings for therapeutic, educational, and expressive purposes.

Studies have proven that integrating the arts into healthcare settings helps to cultivate a healing environment, support the physical, mental, and emotional recovery of patients, communicate health and recovery information, and foster a positive environment for caregivers that reduces stress and improves workplace satisfaction and employee retention.

At Orange Regional, carefully selected artwork, music, art shows and a variety of supporting activities come together to support patients in their return to good health. The Hudson Valley is rich in artists – many of the hospital’s collaborations include local artists.

Two new and exciting exterior enhancements include a wellness walk around the perimeter of the hospital property and a roof top terrace for physicians. The hospital will seek art that fits within these standards for public spaces, examination rooms, waiting area and lobbies.

Special Endowment Naming Opportunity: The Campaign will seek $500,000 to support a healing environment including interior and exterior art. Special naming opportunities exist for a wellness walk and roof top physician terrace.
