Holisitic Therapies: Acupuncture Services
Acupuncture one of the several holistic therapies offered by our staff as complementary service to your clinical diagnosis and treatment. Acupuncture is the technique of inserting thin needles through the skin at specific acupoints, or places on the body that control pain and other symptoms.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture can unblock vital energy at 360 acupoints on the human body to help relieve numerous symptoms related to many diseases. Acupuncture may cause physical responses that can possibly help to control body temperature, boost immune system activity, and cause the body’s natural painkillers, such as endorphins, to be released.
Acupuncture is a complementary therapy for symptom and pain management. Recent studies have demonstrated, in some patients, that Acupuncture may:
- Provide relief from nausea and vomiting following surgery or chemotherapy
- Help reduce cancer-related pain
- Complement traditional treatments for addiction, stroke rehabilitation, headache, menstrual cramps, tennis elbow, fibromyalgia, myofascial pain, osteoarthritis, low back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and asthma
Acupuncture is accessible on an outpatient basis through private practitioners as complementary therapy.
MaryAnn McQuillan provides community and/or group acupuncture sessions which last approximately 20 to 30 minutes. The cost is $35 per person per session. In the group session, patients remain fully clothed and are seated in a quiet space. Auricular (ear acupuncture) points are used to treat the entire body. Occasionally, points on the hands are utilized.
Appointments available Mondays and Wednesdays. Please call 845-222-9781 to schedule an appointment.
