If you have experienced, for example, a hand injury, musculoskeletal trauma, sports injuries, or require a total knee or hip reconstruction, our team has the expertise, experience, and the tools to offer you the latest in minimally invasive orthopedic surgery, such as:

  • Total Hip Replacement Surgery: Our surgeons utilize newer minimally invasive techniques generally offer shorter recovery times, less pain, and improved function and range of motion.
  • Total Knee Replacement Surgery: involving the removal of damaged cartilage in the high and shinbone area and replacing it with specially designed parts biomaterials.
  • Carpal Tunnel Surgery: relieving carpal tunnel symptoms involves cutting the transverse carpal ligament to relieve pressure on the median nerve in the wrist.
  • Sports Medicine: encompassing non-surgical and surgical treatment and treating a variety of injuries resulting from both overuse syndromes and/or acute trauma – most commonly occurring in the knee and shoulder, though also often in the elbow, ankle, hip, and spine.

Michelle Fontaine, M.D. of Orange Regional Medical Group's Orthopedic DepartmentMichelle Fontaine, M.D.
Dr. Fontaine joined the medical staff of Orange Regional Medical Group in 2015 and is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in surgery of the hand and upper extremity. She earned her medical degree from Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Md. completing both her orthopedic internship and residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii. Her hand surgery fellowship is from Walter Reed Army Medical Center/Union Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. She is the recipient of two Army Achievement medals and two Army Commendation medals recognizing her military service, which includes serving as an orthopedic surgeon for the 47th Combat Support Hospital stationed in Al Asad, Iraq.

Prior to joining Orange Regional Medical Group, Dr. Fontaine was chief of hand surgery at Dwight D. Eisenhower Medical Center in Fort Gordon, Ga. and an assistant professor in surgery for the Uniformed Services University. She also held orthopedic surgery positions at Darnall Army Medical Center in Fort Hood, Texas.

Dr. Fontaine, who is board certified in orthopedics by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery with a subspecialty certification in surgery of the hand, is also a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a member of American Society for Surgery of the Hand. She is the author or co-author of seven abstract publications focusing on various aspects of orthopedic surgery.

Eric L. Martin, M.D. joined the medical staff of Orange Regional Medical Group in 2015. He earned his medical degree from New York University, completed both his general surgery internship and his residency at Stony Brook University in addition to his reconstructive joint surgery fellowship from Rush University/St. Luke’s Medical Center & Central DuPage Hospital in Chicago, Ill. He has held academic appointments as clinical assistant professor at New York University/Hospital for Joint Diseases, Stony Brook University and Touro Medical College in Middletown, N.Y.

Prior to joining Orange Regional Medical Group, Dr. Martin was director of joint reconstruction surgery and attending surgeon at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, N.Y., as well as director of joint reconstruction and attending surgeon at Orange Regional Medical Center. He also held attending surgeon positions at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, N.Y., St. Luke’s/Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh/Cornwall, N.Y., Bellevue Hospital in New York, N.Y., Tisch Hospital (NYU)/Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York, N.Y. and Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, N.Y. He has also served as the chairman and vice chairman of Orange Regional Medical Center’s department of orthopedics.

Dr. Martin, who is board certified in orthopedics by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons is also a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is a member of the New York State PBA Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, American Medical Association, New York State Orthopaedic Society, Orange County Medical Society and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is the author or co-author of 11 abstract presentations and publications focusing on various aspects of orthopedic surgery.

Orthopedic Surgeon

Jose B. Toro, MD, has joined Orange Regional Medical Group (ORMG), as an orthopedic surgeon in Orange Regional Medical Center’s Trauma Department. Dr. Toro comes to ORMG from Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, New York, where he served as director of Fracture and Orthopedic Trauma Service since November 2014.

Dr. Toro is Board-certified by, and is a Diplomate of, the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He completed his undergraduate and graduate study at Xavier University School of Medicine in Bogotá, Colombia. He also completed his orthopedic Residency at the university’s affiliated Saint Ignatius Hospital. Dr. Toro completed Fellowships in both Metabolic Bone Disease and Orthopedic Trauma at New York Presbyterian’s Hospital for Special Surgery.

Following his fellowships, Dr. Toro was an orthopedic surgeon at Weill Cornell Medical College/James J. Peters Bronx, VA Medical Center in Bronx, New York In 2007, he served as an orthopedic traumatologist at nearby Jacobi Medical Center, and eventually assumed the role of acting director of its Division of Orthopedic Surgery from 2013 to 2014.

Dr. Toro is an associate member of the Orthopedic Trauma Association, serves as a grant reviewer for the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, is a faculty member of AO North America, a reviewer for the Journal of Orthopedic Trauma and associate editor for The American Journal of Orthopedics. Dr. Toro has numerous publications to his credit and has been an active presenter and panelist throughout his career.
